Blue Hair Don’t Care + Spring Florals

May 25, 2017

If you’ve been around for a minute you know that being a stay at home mom was never something I planned for, nor is it something that I particularly desire. But, we moved when I was about 8 months pregnant, so there would be no job seeking for me until after my “maternity leave.” So, for the last 9 months I have in fact been… a stay at home mom. Stir crazy doesn’t even begin to cover it, friends. So I did a thing… and I dyed my hair blue.

Nine years in retail had mostly eliminated all of my stylish quirks. But for the first time in my adult life I can let my freak flag fly. I don’t even own enough jewelry to fill of my piercings anymore… I haven’t worn a tongue ring in years! ha!

Life has a way of stifling our individuality. Be it work, “growing up,” or motherhood… sometimes we feel like it’s no longer okay to be who we are. And of course I don’t only mean dying your hair funny colors.

Staying home with the kids has been an adjustment for me. I never thought that I would strongly dislike the lack of schedule, but I do. I miss having something to regulate my time and a reason to get ready each day. I know people say to do it anyway, and sometimes I do… but sometimes I don’t either. I don’t know… it just feels like a waste of product to hang around the house in a full face of make up!

I make sure to “get ready” on my husband’s days off as those are the days we go out and do things. He knows how hard the cabin fever hits me and makes sure that we go somewhere; even if it’s just a hike, the park, or out to eat. The change of scenery helps.

I was channeling the inner boho this day. Or the inner old asian woman. You choose. Either way I’m loving this little floral kimono jacket. It makes me feel dressy even when I’m not. 😉 Also, it’s surprisingly warm. I mean… it’s not warm but definitely a noticeable layer.

It’s flowy and loose and is still comfortable while chasing the kids around the park. #momscore

The jacket is from target but no longer available so I’ll link some similar ones too. I’ve already worn it multiple times so I know that it’s going to a warm weather staple for me. You should probably get one. 🙂 I’ve always loved destroyed denim – I’m glad the trend is back. My grandparents used to tease me in high school for paying for pants with holes in them. ha! I can’t help myself.

This may or may not be too much info but I feel like like I need to tell you because I’m in love. My bralette is from American Eagle and I LOVE THEM. I have so many and I still need more. I have a bunch from Victoria’s Secret too… but I like the AE ones better. Don’t tell Victoria.

My sandals are from AE as well. They’re from last year and aren’t available anymore. These are the closest I could find. (And AE is having SOME KIND of sale right now! Run don’t walk!

I’m slowly learning how to rock this Stay at Home Mom business. I’m also enjoying the freedom it has given back to me. (That’s almost ironic, isn’t it?) I like being able to do what I want. It’s been fun (mostly) navigating this season of life. It’s always an adventure trying to balance mommy and myself.

I think it’s great you embraced the freedom you have currently by putting blue in your hair. If you decide at some point to go back to work you might not be able to express yourself so I say go for it now! If anything you’re the super cool Mom with awesome blue hair (:

I love that you are rocking the blue hair. I’ve always wanted to do a bit of pink but I’ve never been bold enough to do it. I love that kimono and those shorts, too. I think you rock it all!

One of my Mormon friends who teaches in Utah has to have “normal” hair for the school year. But, as soon as the bell rings on the last day of school, she dyes her hair different colors for the summer. It’s been green, purple, red/orange, pink, and blue. Then, when mid-August rolls back around, she dyes it back to brunette. I love that about her. I’d do some sort of colorful streak, but I don’t think my husband would appreciate it…haha.

Cute hair! I’ve thought about doing this but with purple or pink.

You should do it! It fades super fast anyway (all funky colors do) and it’s quite fun for a bit. 😀

I love your hair, it looks so great – especially with the loose curls! You’re so right that life has a way of stifling our individuality – good for you for embracing your lack of constraints right now and (outwardly) being who you are!
