Semi-Moved-In Christmas Home Tour

December 23, 2016

Merry Christmas!

I’m finally going to share a bit of our new house here in Colorado! And yes, I would still call us “semi” moved in. Yes, we moved in in October… but first I was ginormously pregnant. And now I have 2 kids + a newborn. So forgive me if I’ve been slow to unpack anything beyond my favorites and necessities. 😉

Our house here is pretty big compared to our home in Florida. I certainly did not decorate it all for Christmas. Heck, we literally just replaced Jace’s bed and Zoey’s dresser – that she is sharing with Grey until we put together the one that we got for him. Ikea is my new best friend. We still have a lot of things in boxes, some of which are randomly placed throughout the house. It’s not HGTV ready around here but it’s real life.

I haven’t even decided if I’m going to bother unpacking everything – who am i kidding?- I’m not going to bother unpacking everything just to repack it and move in less than a year. I’m not going to unnecessarily fill linen closets or empty boxes just to fill them again. And I might be every landlords dream because I’m trying really hard not to hang anything from the walls as I don’t want to put holes in them. haha.

I spend most of my time in living room/kitchen area.

So I basically kept ALL of our decorations right here. We also got our first REAL tree. Josh was most excited of all. Iiiii loved it at first. It smelled just like I hoped it would. But Christmas is this weekend and its looking pretty droopy and much less green than it was. Is there a way to make a tree really last for 4-5 weeks? Let me know.

That swirly little tree was gifted to me by a woman at work about 8 years ago. She gave it to me for my first Christmas in my own apartment. I still pull it out every Christmas and think of her.

Our living room sort of “connects” to a separate space that we kind of use an office type area. The layout of this house is weird, and I’m not exactly sure what this room is supposed to function as. haha. But I’m pretty obsessed with mu Christmas bookcase decor. I will surely be disappointed with whatever I have to fill it with next. ;P

Crappy iPhone photo. But you get the idea.

In traditional weird-layout-house fashion – there is a set of builtins over the fire place in what I can only assume is the dining room. At least we eat in there because small children shouldn’t eat over carpeting. haha.

I love decorating shelves. But I definitely don’t love the orangey wood. Ick. But alas, it’s a rental and I cannot paint them. haha.

Seriously, Christmas decorations are the best. So simple and yet everything is festive. I love.

Having SNOW around Christmas time is some kind of sweet childhood dream come true. Seasonally appropriate weather is blowing my mind right now. My husband says he wishes it was Christmas all year. He IS NOT typically Mr Merry so that’s saying something. Christmas lights just look way better on giant snowy Christmas trees than they do on palm trees. No, I do not miss palm trees.

It’s going to be weird celebrating Christmas with no family around. Usually we have TWO days of Christmas as we did Christmas Eve with my family and Christmas Day with Josh’s. Thanksgiving was equally weird… but I was still in the post-labor haze so I didn’t really mind. It just doesn’t feel quite like Christmas to me with nobody around!

It will be my first time making prime rib instead of turkey so wish me luck and I hope you all have the Merriest of Christmases wherever you are!
