Some e.l.f Products I’ve Tried this Summer

July 27, 2016

Now, I have experimented with ELF products in the past. But honestly, it has been a while since I really tried anything new from them. But as I follow a lot of beauty YouTubers I just kept hearing people rave about their new stuff. It’s seriously so cheap as far as makeup goes, I figured what the hay, and ordered some stuff.

elf cosmetics review | Summer 2016

I don’t know why, because I have more makeup than anyone could ever possibly need…but it’s just one of those things. Once your start experimenting… you. cannot. stop. amirite?

They are also always running specials like “Get X Amount of Free Stuff with your Already Insanely Cheap Stuff!” I literally paid about $37 for like 15 items because they basically matched my paid order with random free stuff. #winning Oh, and they pretty much always have some kind of free shipping deal as well. There’s pretty much no reason not to try some new stuff when you’re feelin’ froggy.

So here is what I tried, and I will start with what I loved.

ELF Moisturizing Foundation Stick

Seriously love love love this! I can already see all of my luxury brand lovers rolling their eyes at me but seriously, I am surprised by how good this is. I love trying out foundations. I have 3248702349586 different kinds. Now, I am blessed with pretty low maintenance skin. I have what would normally be dryer skin, but the Florida climate compensates for that a bit, leaving me with pretty much normal skin year round. (PS when I travel to less humid climates, I basically turn into an alligator and must constantly lotion and chapstick the heck out of myself…yay.)

This pregnancy however, even Florida can’t moisturize my skin enough. It is constantly dry and it’s extremely annoying to manage with some complicated skin care routine since I’m used to washing my face and leaving it alone. eye roll.

Hence my interest when I kept seeing RAVE youtube reviews about this foundation stick. I’ve never even had a foundation stick but it turns out that I love it and that I now never want to stick my fingers into foundation again. 😉 I’ve seen YouTubers compare it to the MakeUp Forever version of this product and still  come out loving it. Hey, at $6 I urge you to try it… if you can find a match in one of only 7 shades. (Turns out I am a perfect match for the shade called “Nude.”)

PS the girl in the MAC store asked my what foundation I was wearing too. 😉 I almost didn’t want to tell her. I will be reordering this!

ELF Wrinkle Refiner Pen

This was an item that I got for free with my order, but it’s price is only $3. But as it turns out, I have an annoying problem with my concealer creasing. And I don’t know what kind of sorcery this stuff is…but it totally helps! I can sort of feel it on my skin (like a tacky primer) when I apply it under my eyes, maybe like it’s filling in the fine lines or something? I don’t know, but I have some like $40 eye cream from MAC and I might like this better.

Sidenote…it does get a little weird if you mix it with other products before it completely dries. Once I put it on and then accidentally put my primer right on top and rubbed them together, and it got all white and weird. So LET IT DRY.

ELF Blush

I have the shade Mellow Mauve and I really like it. I keep hearing rave reviews about the the little blush palette quads that they make too. I have one from a while back and I use it all the time. Definitely superior to my ColourPop blush that is in the same price range and I threw away.

The packaging reminds me of Nars but obviously a way cheaper and more plastic-y version. But I definitely think that was their inspiration. Junky packaging is pretty much always ELFs most consistent setback, but it’s one of the reasons they can price their products so low.

ELF Lip Products

For simplicity’s sake, I will roll the 3 or 4 different lip products that I ordered into one. I ordered “Moisturizing Lipsticks”,”Satin Lipsticks” and “Matte Lip Colors.” I love them all. I definitely like them better than other drug store brand’s like Cover Girl and Maybelline’s lip products. Maybe I am trying the wrong things but I’ve never really loved anything from those guys’ as far as lips go.

And hot pink lips are fun in the summer. 😀

Then for somethings that I didn’t like so much…

elf cosmetics review | Summer 2016

ELF Baked Highlighters

These things are seriously garbage. Don’t buy them. Absolutely nothing shows up on my skin… I let Zoey play in them when she “does her make up” with me and she basically GRINDS a brush into the product and that smashes the brush all over her face and still nothing shows up. haha. I was bummed because they look so pretty in the pan. Ohhhh well. Not all $4 makeup can be awesome I guess. haha.

But they did send me a “skin shimmer” product as one of my free items and I do like that one! And I’m pretty sure that is an even cheaper option than the baked ones.

Then, I was pretty impressed with their customer service. Two of the items that I purchased were broken when they arrived. All I did was get on their little chat page on their website and they sent me over two new ones, no questions asked. I don’t even have to send back the old ones. That’s always nice, because mailing things is annoying. haha. 😉

Have you tried any e.l.f products lately?! I seriously feel like the quality is improving since my last order over a year ago!

I’ll have to order the foundation stick! I have dry skin too so I’ve been hesitant to try any of the stick products because most of them seem so dry. Also, you may like the baked blush in Pinktastic if you want to try a better highlight from them. It’s really pretty and not as pink as it sounds. 😉

I really like the foundation stick for some reason! And Ive actually heard of that blush multiple times. Maybe I will have to give it a shot next time.

I love ELF because my eyes are really sensitive to any makeup and ELF is one of the few brands I can wear. So far I’ve only tried their eye makeup but I might have to give the rest a try!

I have a combo eye shadow/eye liner and I really like the eye liner. It went on smooth and wasn’t all smudgy. I haven’t tried the eye shadow yet because I rarely wear it, but I’m hoping for the best.

I’ve never tried their liners or shadows either! But at least if they aren’t too good, you’re never out TOO much moo-lah!

Yeah, I haven’t always been into their brushes either. But the new makeup is so much better than it was when I tried like over a year or so ago, so maybe the brushes will get better too? I haven’t tried! I do like the lipsticks though!

I have heard about those wet n wild ones! I have a little contour palette that i like from them too. Also super cheap! Elf brushes have been hit or miss for me, but all of the ones that I have are pretty old, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’d improved too!
