Hello again friends!
I have a lot of make up. Like, probably only other people who “really like” makeup have as much as I do. Some of my friends often ask me how I can afford to amass such a quantity, because YOU KNOW makeup ain’t cheap. Even when we’re talking drug store brands.
So I am here to let you in on a little secret…
I never pay full price for drugstore brand makeup. Like, never. And since it is so easy to save money on this stuff… I don’t know how someone ever could! haha! Pretty much every time I try a new product I pay only a few dollars for it. Of course, this process has led me to a few products that I will in fact, pay full price for. But mostly I just know to stock up on them when an opportunity presents itself! ha!
For example; I paid less than $18 for all of this stuff! Here’s how:
For the most part, I save money on makeup by using coupons! More specifically, “stacking coupons.” I buy 2 Sunday papers each week and I check websites like coupons.com. Then, I combine those manufacturer coupons with in-store coupons (Publix/Target.com) Oftentimes, you can use those coupons in addition to a “$5 off your beauty purchase” (for example) coupon from some place like Target. I bought all of these items at Publix, because they take Target coupons. ALSO Ulta takes manufacturers coupons!
Tip: If you’re not into buying a couple papers every Sunday, just buy the first Sunday paper of each month. Those have the P&G ads and always have Covergirl coupons.
I am a sales addict. Basically, I only buy things when they’re on sale! #notashamed Better yet, I’m a clearance addict. And I don’t know about the Ulta where you’re from but mine has clearance racks all the time! They’re messy and scary looking sometimes… but totally usually harboring good stuff if you look hard enough.
- Rewards/Points Programs
Pretty much every store has some kind of “points” program, from Starbucks to Sephora. I usually rack up points with the drugstore purchases that I make a killing on…and apply those points to my high end make up purchases later, so that I pretty much never pay full price for those either! Yeah, I’ve got it down to a science.
Hautelook is awesome! I recently bought some makeup brushes from them for a fraction of the price they normally are. I get emails so I know what is on there everyday, so I never miss a killer deal. 😉
So let’s see some of the stuff I tried last month!
Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation
It’s mostly all Covergirl (like that’s a bad thing?) because of the P&G coupons and Publix had a Covergirl one as well. I paid just over $3 a piece for these foundations. And I actually like them! I’m generally not a fan of Covergirl foundation… actually it literally stings my skin sometimes. But this one does not and it’s got a serious oil control thing going on…nice for humid Florida months (11 months of the year.) 😉
Covergirl Colorlicious Lipsticks
These babies are “new,” says the CG website. I also paid about $3 a piece for them. I went for a nude and a natural pinky shade. They’re sort of a glossy finish and pigmentation. They’re moisturizing and slippery. They’re okay. I will wear them, but I would never pay full price for them. (about $7 each.)
Covergirl Flamed Up Mascara
I’ve purchased this before…I’ll be purchasing it again… just go get some. This stuff isn’t new, but it’s still good. Also, it’s couponable ALL. THE. TIME. I basically always have a stash of this stuff. I am naturally blessed in the eyelash department, my eyelashes are pretty long…so I prefer I don’t know… really wet mascara. I can’t explain it any other way. Ha! Some mascara is thick and chunky and makes my eyelashes clump together. This doesn’t, and that’s why I keep buying it! I really like all of the products from Pink’s Covergirl days…no offense Katy Perry.
Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes
I saved for the best for last… that’s right… I like the wipes better than any of the makeup products! I LOVE these things! Like, I would pay full price for them. They get ALL of my makeup off, even my waterproof mascaras. (Sidenote: my computer just autocorrected “mascara” to “massacres.” THAT would have been awkward…) And as I mentioned before, my skin is sensitive. As in…a lot of products sting my face, a lot. These babies are all natural and don’t hurt a bit. Seriously LOVE. Also, Publix has coupons for them right now. 😉
So there you have it! Half mini-haul, half information session. haha! But that is how I can afford to try so many different kinds of makeup… which let’s be real… is super fun.
Do you like to try different kinds of products? How do you purchase them?
