I’m still new to this whole dressing like a grown up in the cold weather thing. In fact, I only have one year of experience under my belt, and I had a new newborn the whole time. I wasn’t exactly making style a top priority. At this point in Denver’s fall… it’s actually cold. But I’m still ecstatic over fall fashion and therefore have been implementing this whole “layering” tactic. Now for my fellow Floridian readers… that is where you wear more than one shirt at a time to stay warm. Understand? 😉
Fall is a time for new beginnings. That’s one of the reasons that I love it so much. It means a fresh new school year for the babes, birthday season for the babes, and holiday season is right around the corner! (for the babes?) I do not love the time change though. Seriously, why do we still do that?!
This particular fall though, will mean an end to my extended maternity leave with Grey. I stayed home with him for a whoooooole year. But I’ve officially been actively scoping the job market here and I have a couple promising prospects. This is the longest I’ve ever stayed home. I’ve always returned to work after about 12 weeks in the past. I have about a million different feelings about it. But I think I’m excited. Mostly…. Maybe? I’m not sure.
Now that Grey is almost one, my favorite season has rolled around again, and temps are dropping here in Denver I’ve been having lots of fun riffling through my closet on the off chance (realistically like once a week) that hubby takes me somewhere beyond where my normal mom duties allow.
Side note: I’m also thoroughly enjoying dressing my kids for the weather. Baby hoodies are probably the cutest thing I have ever seen. And I often make Zoey match me. She’s about it.
As I was randomly scrolling through Pinterest (as one does, duh) a while ago I realized two things. (Follow me on Pinterest here!)
- The nineties are totally back. I mean, I’ve know trends from my era have been popping up and here there for a while, but I’ve decided that they’re full fledge back. I’m not sure how I feel about being old enough to have experienced the comeback of a fashion era. #weird
- Layering stuff to keep warm is totally cute. Even kind of random stuff that you wouldn’t necessarily think to put together at first.
I know that my sense of style is somewhat eclectic. So perhaps it isn’t for everybody. But if you’ve met me… I’M a little eclectic too. And I’m totally okay with it. 😉
It’s interesting how in this season of change, both in the weather and my life, I feel more ready than I usually do. I usually hate change, at least until I’m sure that it’s positive. I’m a creature of habit but I feel that might finally be changing a little bit.
Maybe it’s the fact that I still feel like we’re in limbo here a bit in Denver; it’s not really home yet but it’s not really not either. Or maybe I’m getting old. You tell me.
Anyhoo, my sweater is from Forever21 a couple years ago, but I linked something similar. The shirt underneath I LOVE and is Style & Co from Macy’s (It’s on clearance!) I seriously love the mustard color. Mustard all the things. Just me? My jeans are American Eagle. As usual. (But they’re definitely on clearance right now! GET YOU SOME!) My denim jacket is thrifted but originally from Gap. Booties are from Target, and I looooove them.
Jace’s sweater is from Cat & Jack at Target and I got it on clearance for like $8 and I think it’s the cutest thing ever. He’s annoyed that I make him wear it so much. He hates taking photos so maybe you can’t tell but the word says “AWESOME” across the front. Because he’s awesome. duh.
Zoey is all about matching with me. Literally everything she’s wearing is from Target except for her denim jacket, which is from The Children’s Place.
Am I the only person who has kids where 75% of their closet comes from Target?! I can’t be the only one. Get back to me on that.
Grey is also pretty much a Target model. Linking his little booties because I’m obsessed and a similar sweater because I can’t find the exact one for the life of me. Except I’m pretty sure his baby cargo pants are from The Children’s Place. They’re awesome because they’re lined inside so they’re extra cozy. Gotta keep my little Colorado baby warm.
