5 Things to Make Your Life Better…Right Now!

It almost feels weird to be writing this at what should be one of the “easiest” points in my life. I mean, having three kids might seem like mania for some, but for me it is just the most basic foundation of my life. The simple fact that everything else rests upon. I have surely survived more maddening schedules and lifestyles. (Seriously, full time college, work, and 2 kids was a hustle like you would never believe unless you’ve done it.) But alas, this part of my life has been difficult for me… and this is what is making it easier right now.

Keep a Reverse To Do List

Or a “done list” as I’ve heard some call it. There’s nothing like creating a list of things to do, and come the end of the day… you’ve done none of the things. It always makes me feel bad, and let’s get real… with a 3 month old there is no surefire way to anticipate how much you could actually get done in a day. I mean, yesterday I did laundry and cleaned the bathrooms and made a fancy homemade dinner (Buffalo Chicken Twice Baked Sweet Potatoes, thank youuu!) Other days, I’m couch bound with my boob out and get literally nothing done. Keeping a list of what I have accomplished instead of what I haven’t yet is just way more motivating for me. It’s like the cup-half-full version of a to-do list. 😉

Decorate Your Space

I’ve complained mentioned a lot recently that I’ve been spending more time at home than ever before. In fact, I’m experiencing full blown stay at home mom life for the time being. I also have this big empty house full of empty walls to stare at. So I’ve been (slowly but surely) decorating a bit around here. I say slowly because Grey doesn’t like to let me get too crazy…and by crazy I mean get any serious amount of things done. Sometimes I don’t think it’s worth it to decorate a rental…but I spend so much time here that I just have to enjoy being here! Zoey said the same thing to me a few weeks ago; she kept saying that she missed her “Florida room” because it was pretty. So we set to work on in her plain white room a couple days ago. I shared a little bit of the progress on my Instagram stories!

Read a Book

Ya know like…the paper kind. There’s just something about screen free time that soothes the soul. I am no screen time nazi, but just about every part of our lives can now be done through a computer screen and I promise… it’s refreshing to break away. For me, it’s the ease of access to a million different apps at once that does me in. I have some kind of electronic ADD – I can’t even stay in one app for too long. I’m also the type of person to have 20 tabs open at the same time in my browser. 😛 The physical book forces me to remain engaged with one thing, one storyline. I am currently digging this one!

Make a Playlist

Pretty sure this is applicable to every person ever. Music just makes stuff better. I personally have playlists allocated for certain activities, moods, people… you name it. But when I begin to feel moody I turn on an upbeat playlist and at very least… it distracts me from gloomy thoughts. I also find that music motivates me to move – be it running, cleaning, or driving.

Sidenote: driving playlists are my favorite. There will never be a surround sound that is as good as locking yourself inside with the sound… like you do in a car. Also, I like it when my seats and mirrors vibrate. #bass

How to bake Pumpkin Banana Bread

Now, having recently moved to Colorado… I realize that this may mean very different things to different people. 😉 You do you… but I’m referring to the chocolate chip cookies side of things. I’ve been trying to cook a lot more as of late, buuuttttt I will always like baking better. Or maybe I just like the end result better? Who knows. But for me baking is a task I can complete relatively quickly, include my kiddos, and enjoy the finished product within the hour. #yesplease Also, thanks to Pinterest you can learn to bake things that you’ve haven’t even heard of yet. You should  try this recipe. (Also my method of choice while learning to cook new things.)

So there you have it… a list of things I personally have been incorporating into my life to keep the postpartum- I just moved- and have no friends yet- blues away. All simple things, I know. But that is the point after all.

Play Your Kids Video Games

We Santa got Jace a Nintendo DS for Christmas… and you can download the OG Pokemon games on it. BRINGING ME SO MUCH JOY PEEPS. Video games were just better when we were young. I mean, we have the brand spanking new Pokemon games for it… and we all just play the old one that we paid $10 to download anyway. Even Jace prefers it. Also, you can download old school Playstation games on the new consoles as well. Crash Bandicoot and Spyro are just as good as you remember. Promise.

    Love this list. Music is a serious mood-lifter for me, and I agree with the idea of taking a break from screen time and reading a real book. I often read books on my phone because it’s so convenient, but there is something so satisfying about actually flipping pages and seeing the physical progression through the book.

    Great post and fantastic tips! I agree with all of them (except the kids video games since I don’t have kids or video games haha). I love seeing a reverse to-do list at the end of the day. If I make a to-do list I will always add the productive things I accomplished as procrastination to the complicated things initially on the list. Does that make sense? Haha!     I love these! I read another friend’s blog post once awhile ago about a reverse to do list, and whereas I like that idea, if I didn’t keep a list of the things I needed to do I’d never be able to remember anything! LOL. But I do often add things to my to-do list that I’ve already done, just so I can cross them off. 😉
